A file containing the personal information including social security numbers of nearly 100 students at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College has been reported to police as stolen.
About 1 out of every 11 people's personal information on the campus could be in someone else's hand.
Leah Dick says, "When you think of identity theft you think of when I'm on the computer, buying stuff online you really don't think of your school."
According to one alleged victim, who didn't want to be identified she was informed by letter Tuesday that a file containing personal information including her name, school identity, and social security number had gone missing.
The letter, she says, did not elaborate on what exactly this file was and neither would school officials only saying it happened over the weekend and a police report has been filed regarding stolen social security numbers of nearly 100 students.
According to the alleged victim she's aware of others getting a letter from the school as well. Everyone we spoke with on campus however were not aware of the stolen identity.
The same letter sent to the alleged victims also advises students to contact credit card companies to put a fraud alert on their account just in case whoever has this information decides to use it.

you can expect this type of thing when you take prayer out of schools
Ridiculous. This is ridiculous. Identity theft is out of control. The school should be held liable for ANYTHING that happens to anyone's identity they did NOT protect.
This is terrible on the school's part. Confidential info should be kept as secure as possible behind locked doors and in locked safes guarded by Security guards and on video surveillance as well. The school dropped the ball on this one and should be liable for any and all costs accordingly.
