Cockfighting Ring Discovered In Southern Kentucky

A cockfighting ring is discovered in Southern Kentucky.

Investigators are looking into the Sally Gap Game Club in Whitely County. We’re told cock fights are known to take place at the Whitley County club nearly every weekend.
A national animal activist group now wants to know why no one has been arrested.

The Humane Society of the United States sent in an undercover investigator this past weekend. The organization tells us it is one of the biggest cockfighting rings they’ve ever seen. The arena has stadium seating with a capacity of several hundreds. Several fighting rings are setup inside the building.

The HSUS found out about the cockfighting ring after seeing an ad in Gamecock magazine, a trade publication for people who are involved in cockfighting.

Cockfighting is against the law in Kentucky. It is also illegal to be a spectator at a cockfight. Both are misdemeanors.

The Whitley County Sheriff says he is aware of the situation at the club, but says he does not have enough help to enforce the law.

The undercover video taken by the HSUS has been sent to the Commonwealth Attorney’s office.

How could anyone be stupid enough to not realize that forcing animals to murder each other for entrainment is wrong. Roosters fight because they are territorial animals. In nature, they would not be in a confined space, and therefor DO NOT fight in the wild unless they are fighting over territory. By placing them in the ring, you are taking advantage of their instincts and you are forcing them to kill each other. I'm so happy this is finally illegal! It should be more than a misdemeanor, though. And it doesn't "keep teems off drugs". I've known plenty of people who go to these things to get drunk while underage, get drugs, and hook up with people far older than them (think fifteen and forty). Nothing good comes out of this hillbilly "sport", and I can only wish anyone who supports this is forced to fight for their life after being tortured, abused, starved, and neglected for months or even years, just like the poor animals they murder for fun.

Let me tell you guys something. Ive grew up around chickens and farm animals my whole life. My grandfather took me to poultry shows, state fairs, flea markets, swap meets and chicken fights while i was growing up, and we he used to fight them. I asked him one time what his thoughts were on chicken fighting being illegal and his exact words were, "well, some people call it cruelty to animals. But, a chicken is not an animal! It is a FOWL! A bird!" Someone told me not too long ago that It has just been recently passed that the State of Kentucky has banned chicken fighting and that it is now illegal to fight them... Its in their blood. Humans fight, chickens fight, dogs fight, even freakin squirrels fight!!! One big role that banned dog fighting was they said it was a threat to humans also. True. But a chicken? Get Real. Im sure if you ask around, you'll find out that most people arent against it. Farming and raising Gamefowl or Game Chickens have always been around and always will be!

Anyone who is against this sport is just blind. This is nothin more than hundreds of years of smart people breedin to improve the sport. Ive seen these pits. People bring there family, almost like a fair. I would rather see these teens at a cockfight rather than on the streets doing drugs and crime. These animals fight by choice. Thats what makes this such and amazing thing to watch. If one bird didn't want to fight to the death than it would turn and run and its life would be spared. These animals would rather fight than eat or mate with hens. Its in there blood. You city people are just heart broke that my cock is worth more than your car and i can make more in one night than you can in a month. People dont do this for money. Cause this is the way there raised. Just like the birds they fight...its in there blood.

Anyone who raises any animal for the sole purpose of watching it fight for its life is not normal. There is something wrong with you.But you will say in your defense, Thats how we be raised out here in these woods,These animals was born for this, it keeps us off drugs and keeps us out of trouble,It feeds our family,Its an old tradition going back 40 billion years, and its about freedom. What a crock. You fight animals because you are cowards,I wonder how you would feel being thrown into a pit with another man to fight to your death against your will? The romans did it.and its in our nature to fight as well.We have been doing it since cain killed able.If you want real satisfaction,if you want to see the ultimate fighting challenge, join the military.lets see what you are made of or how long you would last. It sickens me to think that i live in the same state with you non spelling hicks.the bottom line is you poor hicks just dont know any better.COWARDS ALWAYS PICK ON THE HELPLESS AND WEAK.

The people posting that support chicken fighting need to spend less time watching the torture of animals and more time learning how to spell and use the English language. Jason...the people on TV fighting choose to do that for a living..and they don't kill each other. Roosters have no choice. I have several family members that go to cockfights...and I know exactly what goes one there.

THE HUMANE SOCIETY NEEDS TO LEAVES US COCKERS ALONE AND LETS DO WHAT GEORGE WASHINGTON AND ABE LINCOLN DONE TO MAKE IT PART OF OUR TRADITION IN AMERICA. THESE BIRD WERE BORN AND PUT ON THIS EARTH TO DO WHAT THEY DO, ITS SIMPLE AS THIS YOU PUT MINNOWS AND WORMS, GRASSHOPPERS AND EVEN CHICKEN LIVERS ON A HOOK TO FISH SO WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL WITH LETTING THESE BIRDS DO WHAT THEY ARE BORN TO DO.

HUMANE SOC. AND PETA NEED TO QUIT GETTING MONEY FROM THE GOVERMENT AND LEAVE US COCKERS ALONE. HIPOCRITS!! YOU SEE THEM AT YOUR LOCAL KFC EATING CHICKEN, BUT THEY ARE AGAINST FIGHTING THEM. THIS IS AMERICA, NOT CHINA. IF PETA AND HUMANE SOC WANT TO HUGG TREES, SEND THEM TO THE WOODS TO HUG TREES. FEED THE STARVING CHILDREN IN AMERICA WITH THE MONEY THEY GET FROM THE GOVERMENT AND YOU SEE HOW MANY CHILDRENS WILL GO WITH THEIR STOMACH FULL EVERY NIGHT.
