When students miss too many days of school many times the parents are punished with a fine or even jail-time.
In Floyd County, one school is reaching out to tardy pupils.
It's called the Truancy Diversion Program.
Betsy Layne High School began the program last fall.
Students participating meet with a committee made up of parents, school officials and a local judge.
School officials say since the program began last year attendance has increased by four percent.
Do you believe parents should be punished when their children miss to many days of school?
