One eastern Kentucky man is facing murder charges after allegedly driving drunk in a head on collision in Perry County.
Tammy Stacy says she and her daughter were walking down this road Thursday evening when she says they heard a loud crash. “We looked around and seen the black vehicle pushing the car,” Tammy Stacy said.
Police say 35 year old James Barnes of Dwarf came around a curve on highway 476, went off the road, then over-corrected and hit another vehicle head on.
The collision killed that driver 34-year old Marlene Shelton of Fisty and sent passengers in both cars to the hospital.
“The collision is under investigation, it's determined one of the factors in the collision was alcohol involvement,” Trooper Joey King said.
Now police say Barnes is facing multiple charges.
“He's charged with murder, DUI, three counts of assault,” Trooper King said.
Stacy says she won't forget what she saw that night and says it's hard to think it could have been prevented.
Police say Barnes is being held in the Kentucky River Regional Jail... Awaiting arraignment.
Police say Shelton's 17 year old daughter is still in UK Medical Center awaiting a major surgery and her husband Robert Shelton is in the critical care unit at the Hazard ARH
The other passengers have been treated and released.
