In the increasingly rough and tumble race for the U.S. Senate, one candidate now says his opponent is not a Kentuckian.

Secretary of State Trey Grayson is being labeled as a republican insider by eye surgeon Rand Paul.

Now Grayson is calling Paul an “Outsider.”

“He's an outsider, he's not a Kentuckian. You know I'm a 5th generation Kentuckian, educated here in the public schools, raising my family here. The reason so why so many thousands of Kentuckians are helping out my campaign is they've seen my record as secretary of state, they've seen me deliver on what I promised,” Grayson said.

You can hear Grayson's entire interview Monday night at seven on Issues & Answers The Mountain Edition on WYMT.

Wow, what desperation so early in the race. That is probably one of most rude elitist statements I've heard in Kentucky politics (maybe his life during private school in Massachusetts rubbed off too much - ha!) I don't mean that he is elitist for looking down at those from outside KY, but because what Trey Grayson has done here is to say TO KENTUCKIANS: ...You people will vote for me, not on principles and reason, but on the fact I was born here. You people don't care at all about principles so I will get to the heart of your concerns because I know you all think that Nepotism always reigns supreme here in KY... Nearly every branch of my family has been in Ky since before and shortly after Kentucky was founded and I am voting for Rand Paul (and I am not running for office.) We don't need Trey Grayson, all he's done is help to provide my state with one of the largest deficits in the US. Trey would negotiate my kids' future for his political gain - Trey is a career politician.

If anyone here is an "outsider" it's the Democrat interloper Tray Grayson. Grayson's father was a long time donor to liberal Democrats, and Graysom himself supported BILL CLINTON in 1992. Grayson jumped party lines after the 1994 anti-Clinton backlash. But Grayson remains a liberal at heart. I dont trust him at all and this petty cheap shot against Dr. Rand Paul, - A LIFELONG CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN - will backfire.

For the SOS to make a statement like this, I find it extremely offensive. My son wasn't born in KY, my parents weren't born in KY, and my husbands parents weren't born in KY. Are they not "true Kentuckians"? Maybe while I was serving in the Navy I should have come home to give birth just to make sure that our ELECTED officials in this state consider him a "true Kentuckian". This is flat out sick. Way to insult the "outsiders" in this state. It's ok. We will remember this next year. Trey needs to learn to watch him mealy-mouth.
