Rescuers Search for Deckhand Who Fell Into Ohio River

CARROLLTON, Ky. (AP) - Rescuers were using sonar and cadaver dogs Friday morning in their search for a deckhand who fell off a towboat into the Ohio River.

The man, whose name has not been released, fell off a tug boat just after 5 a.m. EST Wednesday as the tug boat passed near mile marker 536 in Carroll County, about halfway between Louisville and Cincinnati, said Lt. Tina Owen with the U.S. Coast Guard in Louisville said.

The search is considered a recovery mission because the man hasbeen in cold water too long to have survived, Owen said.

The missing man was aboard the Jean Akin, a towboat owned by Paducah's Crounse Corp.

A crew member called the Coast Guard to report the man overboard, Owen said.
