Appalachian Regional Healthcare has been given a strike notice.

The contract between ARH and the United Steel Workers ends April 1st.

WYMT spoke to a negotiator for the United Steel workers who told us they filed a ten-day strike notice with ARH Wednesday evening.

That negotiator says the strike notice is nothing more than common procedure and does not mean they will definitely strike.

If they do decide to strike, it would be April 1st, the last day of the contract.

He did not talk about any specifics of what they are looking for in the contract because of the on-going negotiations.

The ARH Chief Negotiator, Jim Johnson, released this statement saying, "Progress has been made, and we are working toward a solution by the end of the contract period."

Right now, it is strictly a day-to-day situation and depending on how negotiations pan out, the United Steel Workers may or may not strike.
