A major tourist attraction attracted thousands of people to eastern Kentucky every year.

The P-38 fighter plane has been on display in Middlesboro for years and is now gone for good.

Jay Shoffner says he believes this is what his father would've wanted.

It's just a shame that selling it means it won't be on display in his hometown any longer.

The P-38, also known as Glacier Girl, attracted thousands of people to Middlesboro every year.

The P-38 has been in Chino, California all winter it is set to take a flight up the Atlantic to Greenland

That is where the plane was recovered from a polar ice cap.

That was Roy Shoffner's ultimate dream, which he partly realized when the fighter plane was restored and flew again in Middlesboro in 2002.

Dhoffner died in 2005 and his family says the plane wasn't continuing to live up to Shoffner's dream in Middlesboro.

The Shoffner's son Jay sold the plane to a Texas aviation company.
