A robbery at a southeastern Kentucky coal mine leaves a man bound with duct tape.

WYMT's Jeff Allen talked to the person who found that guard and has more on what happened.

Don Farmer, a maintenance supervisor for Harlan Cumberland Coal says when he got to work at four Tuesday morning and he heard cries for help from the mine's security guard.

“He says I'm back here tied up! They tried to rob us,” Farmer said.

Farmer says around 2am, when Dwayne Harris was patrolling the mining warehouse, three men came by saying they had broken down on highway 119 and needed help.

“He opened up a trunk to get the screwdriver and one put a gun into his ribs and told him this was a hold up,” Farmer said.

Farmer says the men then tied Harris up with duct tape and wire then took what they could get out of the mining warehouse.

Farmer says Harris is at home resting and pretty shaken up about what happened.

He says Harlan Cumberland Coal is still assessing exactly what all machinery and equipment was stolen. Farmer says this isn't the first time thieves have targeted the mine and he says the problem's getting worse.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the robbery.

This isn't the first time Harlan Cumberland Coal has faced problems with theft.

In 2005 the company cut back operations after losing 150-thousand dollars in equipment.

At that time, police were looking for suspects in connection with 17 thefts.

Harlan Cumberland Coal offered a reward then, but mine officials say despite leads police never made any arrests.
