From daily vitamins to prescription medications and even the beverages you drink, doctors and pharmacists say there are a lot of possibilities for bad drug interactions.
Doctors and Pharmacists say with all the different kinds of medications out there and it's very important to keep track to avoid dangerous interactions.
Doctor Mitchell Wicker says you could also bring a list with you to the doctor of all the drugs you're taking.
“It's easier this day and age with the Internet we can check real quickly and make sure that there's not some new problem that's come up,” Dr. Wicker said.
Pharmacist Lori Johnson says there's even some items in your kitchen that can interact with certain drugs.
“A lot of drugs interact with grape fruit juice, over the counter medicines, vitamins with iron with iron in it, calcium, there's a lot of different drug interactions,” Pharmacist Lori Johnson said.
Johnson says there's a list of issues that can result from drug interactions, from a medication not being as effective to illness and in the worst case death.
So she says to be on the safe side and ask a medical professional if you aren't sure.
Both Wicker and Johnson agree that it's best to stick with the same doctor and pharmacist so they'll know your medical history.
Doctors also recommend keeping the list of medicines you are taking with you at all times and informing your loved ones where the list is.
