The former attorney for former state lawmaker and murder suspect Steve Nunn has filed a lawsuit against unknown defendants who posted comments about her on the Lexington Herald-Leader's website.
Astrida Lemkins says in the lawsuit that the comments were false and defamatory and have caused her emotional distress.
Someone used the screen name "supercalifragilistic" to write that "Lemkins was mentally ill." Other comments claimed she has threatened to kill herself and urged her client Steve Nunn to "really really really get a new lawyer."
Lemkins subpoenaed the Herald-Leader, demanding they give up the identity of the person or persons who wrote the comments.
Lemkins told 27 NEWSFIRST the comments were slanderous and libelous and meant to ruin her career.
Herald-Leader editor Peter Baniak said the comments have been removed and the commenter has been banned from Kentucky.com
"At this time, we are attempting to contact the commenter to see if he or she wishes to object to the subpoena and assert his or her First Amendment right to anonymous speech," Baniak said.
Lemkins was Nunn's attorney until late October, until London attorney Warren Scoville took over the case.
