A Harlan radio talk show host taking his support of coal to a new level.
Randy Walters with WTUK FM is promoting a boycott of Lexington businesses by eastern Kentucky shoppers because he feels the city does not support coal.
Walters is gaining attention, even on the national level, making appearances on other talk shows, including on Fox Business Network.
However, Walters says a boycott of retailers will really bring attention to the issue.
The boycott comes on the heels of a tour involving several members of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce tour of eastern Kentucky just one month ago.
The Lexington Mayor and other business leaders say they support the region, and understand coal's importance.

To Penny, you are proof that there is a few intelligent people around. You hit the nail on the head. Your statement has been proved over and over. A certain coal company kept running coal while some miner was dying with his legs severed by another employee on drugs hit him with a scoop. To them running coal was more important then the miners life. Moreover, there are people still stick up for the company. Talk about born loser's that can only get by; by sucking the toes of the big boss man.
Well, its people like you that say they are stupid enough to work harder for less money. If anyone has shown any ignorance its you. Do you even know what a "robber baron is?" doesn't sound like it. It also sounds like you are sucking up to the maggots that get rich from people like you. Also, it proves the fact that you can't have a battle of witts with an unarmed person. That person being you.
i think the radio talk host is right on the money. we were here in harlan county on a coal miners pay. nine kids were fed by my dads coal mining pay check. talk away coal and we would all have to do without everything we need .if you were raised by a cosl miner you would see the importance of coal in our region. the coal operators and owners does not care about the little people that work for them and the way the treat their employers or some of them anyway is horrible.they only care about the money going into their bank acount so they have to act they are for the worker so money will keep coming to them.i know because i worked for them and they will turn on you in a heart beat. i am not mentioning and names but they know how they are. the only good thing out of this problem would be that they loose some of their riches to build huge homes and fancy cars and clothes.
