Lexington police tell us around 8:00 Monday night, a 5 year-old was hit by a white convertible.

Police say it happened on Cambridge Dr. near Village Drive. That's where police say the driver fled the scene. They say they found the teen's car just down the street, but the teenager had fled.

27 NEWSFIRST has learned after police questioned witnesses at an apartment complex, they learned the driver was a 16 year-old who did not have a license.

Police say they have not yet located the driver, and say they will issue a warrant.

The young victim was taken to UK Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

That teen does need to be punished, but my question is where were the parents of the 5year old and what was the child doing outside at that time of night????

In my opinion the youth driver should be charged as an adult to the fullest extent of the law. Also the owner of the car should be in trouble for letting the youth use the vechicle

where were the parents of the five year old at the time of the accident? I do belive the 16 year old needs punished for his actions/crime. It's sad when it's not even safe for you to let your children play outside without the fear of them being gunned down or a victime of a hit and run.

What kind of person could actually hit a 5 year old and then run? Someone sounds like a coward more than a man. Consequences will happen when you do things you know you shouldn't do. I hope they catch the low life that did this and I dont care how old he is he should be tried in court as an ADULT. I think a 16 year old knows better...
