Woman Arrested For Bringing Gun To School Board Meeting

WESTWOOD, Ky. (AP) - An eastern Kentucky woman was arrested Monday night after allegedly pulling a gun from her purse during a school board meeting, police said.

Tina Thompson, 51, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on school property after taking the gun from her purse during the Fairview Independent School Board meeting.

Thompson was at the meeting to talk about school safety said Rex Cooksey, Fairview safe schools coordinator.

Cooksey said Thompson did not threaten anyone at the meeting, but was restrained until police arrived. Thompson was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, said Sgt. Debbie Smallridge with the Boyd County Sheriff's Office.

I think she was wrong to bring a gun to the meeting, but I see the point she wanted to make. She got in to the meeting WITH a weapon. Now if she had been intent on hurting some one, she could have very easliy done it.

I guess she'll get a first hand lesson about school safety now from the Courts. Class D Felony means 1 to 5 years in the prison system.

My understanding is that the gun was not loaded. She was making a point, but did it the wrong way.
