Two Teens Are Facing Over 100 Counts Of Terroristic Threatening

Two teens are in jail and they are facing more than one hundred counts of terroristic threatening.

This comes with school safety already on the mind of many across the country, especially after the massacre at Virginia Tech.

That's exactly why students at Owsley County High School didn't go to class Wednesday morning.

The school's superintendent says it's better to be safe than sorry.

One day of students taking their cats tests in nearly 90-degree classrooms was enough.

School officials were already planning to cancel classes to repair the broken air conditioning when they say they found a more serious reason to keep students home.

“We came across what we call letters of concern in which there's the potential threat of several students within our school,” Superintendent Stephen Jackson said.

Kentucky State Police say two students were arrested at 2am and charged with 124 counts of terroristic threatening.

Those juveniles faced a judge Wednesday afternoon.

Superintendent Stephen Jackson and police don't want to give details about the alleged letters, but Jackson says this was not a bomb threat.

“They were distorted documents with potential threats,” Superintendent Jackson said.

Jackson says the school was cleared to have classes on Thursday, but there will be extra security.

“We have metal detectors and they will probably be used tomorrow,” Jackson said.

School officials also say letters are being prepared for parents.

Again there will be school Thursday in Owsley County.

The superintendent says when students are charged with criminal activity, their school punishment often depends on court proceedings, however, alternative school or suspension are two possibilities.

I am also a parent of Owsley County students I agree with the comment on everyone should get equal punishment I have heard they were some more involved in this and they said they didn't want to investagate any further due to causing one of the mother's humilation because she works at the Owsley Elementary school. I don't think the Board of Education is doing there jobs as the old saying goes what is fair for the goose is fair for the gander everyone that was involved should get the same thing. This case is evidentally not being pushed under the rug because all of the other cases just like this one they never even told the parents so I don't know what was different with this one but I don't think people should jump to conclusion or judge people they are so many people that keeps saying if god and paddling hadn't been removed from schools this wouldn't be happening. Well if these people were true christains they would look at this from both sides. I couldn't imagine what the parents of the children that have been arrested are going through besides the parents of the children that were threatened. Some times people need to think that could have easily been one of my on involved sometimes kids do things just because others are doing the same.

To start one of these juveniles are not a teenager and neither of the students are High School students they are middle school students that are in the same school building with High School Students. They were many other students involved in this event and nothing is being done about it because of who they are. Maybe if the County and School Board would vote on building a Middle School this would eliminate some of the problems.

I have 3 children in the Owsley County School system. This school system is based on who you know on getting a job or taking concerns on what is going on with all these students. To my understanding there were more students involved in this and it got pushed out of the way do to one of there parents works for the Owsley school system that just is not right everyone involved should get equal punishment. I also read some of the other comments and I also agree with drug testing these teachers and bus drivers. And also on the other comments this isn't the first time this has happened here in this county. I wonder why the other ones wasn't let known about publicly like this one and as far as the picking on other students there are never anything ever done about that in Owsley County. And to what I am being told there are teachers giving assingnments on things that these students shouldn't even be discussing.

Each citizen should be held responsible for his or her actions. A few years at Eddyville should give them some time to consider whether they want to live in an open society or a very restricted society. Make an example of them for others with a like mind to conider.

I don't live in Owsley County, but I disagree with "S" in KY...I feel WYMT has done a good job with this report. It's not exposing like that of VA Tech. They have been careful of details, they didn't submit what the letters were, just that they were not a bomb threat. and as far as "Just Me", I think a judge would take this more serious with the circumstances, not just let it slide due to the mothers' job position. Again, I'm not from there, but I did read in another town of a "social worker" being arrested for terrositic threating, AI, and wanton endangerment. So give the authorities a chance to pursue.

This will probably be raked under the rug. If a child has a parent employed by a school or some other political position things usually go there way . I have a child that has been smacked pushed and humiliated all year by a teachers student and he also has a grandmother that works at the school. I have been to the principal, teacher and the board and cant get anything done. Where do you go next? All I get is they are just being kids and it was an accident.
