A string of car break-ins has folks living in one southern Kentucky city on edge!

Several people in London have reported things missing from their cars during the past few weeks.

Police say many of the break-ins could have been prevented.

Police say the thieves have a definite target when they get to the neighborhood, they're looking for unlocked vehicle doors, once inside the car they're looking for anything of value such as cd's rare coins, XM stereos anything the can get away with in a hurry police say they've already taken over 9,000 dollars worth of merchandise.

At least three people that we talked to in this neighborhood of about 12 homes have reported things being taken from cars parked in their driveway.

It is something that comes to a surprise to David Walters, who just moved here last summer.

Although Walters wasn't one of the victims, he says he's noticed unusual activity lately.

He says the car thieves have changed the atmosphere of this small town.

One way to make sure you're not a victim simply lock your doors, anyone with information on these burglaries should call Crime Stoppers for a 1000 dollar reward.

Police say this has been an ongoing problem for several months.

The Mallard Point, Heritage, and Laurels subdivisions have also been hit.
