Vandals Strike Again, Torching Historic Tree

Neighbors are furious after vandalism at Woodland Park leads to one of the city's oldest trees being cut down.

Last week two trees at the park were set on fire.

The trees were significantly damaged, but they survived the first bout of vandalism. However, the vandals struck again Wednesday night and this time, they destroyed one of the trees.

An enormous sycamore tree, more than 100 years old, was so badly burned, city officials were concerned about its structural soundness.

Cutting the tree down has stirred up some controversy among people who live near Woodland Park. Some say the city acted too quickly in getting rid of the tree.

We're told four different arborists looked at the tree and because of the fire damage inside they agree the tree is not structurally sound.

So, for safety reasons, all 10 tons of the tree are coming down.

We're told that the city is trying to save the other tree that was vandalized.

There is a one thousand dollar reward being offered for information on the vandals.

Have any of you spent time at the skate park? I am there most nights of the week w/ a carload of teenagers. Most of these "undisciplined, non-Christian" children are out there to skate, nothing else. They are not trouble makers and they are not there to cause problems. I have watched the crowds at the park and most of the problems I've witnessed are NOT coming from these teenagers. Sit by the parking lot on any given night and you can watch 40 year old men pull in to smoke their dope and leave. Have any of you ever noticed the homeless population that lives in the park? I have personally seen the problems some of them can create. My point is that you make it sound as though you were raised Christian homes with proper discipline. If that is the case, how can you judge these kids because they like to ride skateboards or simply because they're kids? I will agree that one of them could have easily vandalized these trees, but I am also open-minded enough to consider the fact that they are not the only possibility!

I AGREE WITH THE COMMENTS MADE--I HAVE 2 CHILDREN OF MY OWN AND 6 GRANDKIDS. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM WITH EITHER OF THEM. BUT, I REARED MY TWO IN A CHRISTIAN HOME AND THE GRAND KIDS ARE BEING REARED BY THEIR PARENTS IN CHRISTIAN HOMES. IF KIDS AREN'T TAUGHT FROM BIRTH TO HAVE RESPECT FOR THEMSELVES AS WELL AS OTHERS, THEY USUALLY WIND UP ON THE OTHER SIDE OF MORAL VALUES AND THE LAW. TIME TO GET BACK TO THE BASICS AND TELL THE GOVERMENT IF THEY WANT TO TELL PARENTS HOW TO REAR CHILDREN THAT THEY CAN HAVE THEM. BUT IT LOOKS AS THO THEY ARE FAILING AND ARE AFRAID TO ADMIT IT. GOD KNOWS BEST WHAT MANKIND NEEDS!!!!!!!

If parents would teach their children to be honorable people we wouldn't have these kinds of creeps in the world. People aren't born bad, they are raised that way

It makes you wonder if they law hadn't gotten so out of control about the difference between discipline and child abuse if things like this would be occurring. Most children these days know that all they have to do is say "I am abused" to get and adult in trouble and everyone believes them. If as a parent we were allowed to discipline as the bible saids if some of these kids could have been taught respect by taking a belt to their back sides. I bet you wouldn't have as many out late nights in the streets, or doing vandalism, or murdering cause they are bored and know that for the most of it nothing is going to happen to them. I say take a stand and bust your kids tail for misbehaving. I have seen kids so spoiled that their parents are in debt paying for a car for their children. There is no way one of my children would have been driving a car better then mine. They got my hand me downs and I got the new car because I had to work. It is time for the adults to step back up and take back control from the children, and the system needs to turn there heads when a child crys wolf just cause it got its tail busted for doing something wrong. Don't get me wrong I don't believe in abuse or beating on a child, but I never see a kid die from getting a good spaking with a belt on its backside!

Have a guy stand in the middle of the skate park houling a jack-hammer in one hand and a sign in the other asking, "who dunnit?" and you will get an honest answer QUICK!

How horrible people are. We live in a world where now we should take charge. They need to fence up the park (big iron fences unable to climb up)
