Winchester Parents Charged in Daughter's Death

WINCHESTER, Ky. (AP) - The parents of a ten-year-old Winchester girl found dead in the family's apartment in March have been charged with murder.

Patrick and Joy Watkins were initially charged with first-degree criminal abuse involving Michaela (Mic-kay-lah) Watkins, but a Clark County grand jury chose more severe charges.

The couple is being held on 200-thousand dollars bond each in the Clark County jail.

The girl was found dead in March in the family's apartment. According to court records, witnesses told police that the girl had been dead at least 45 minutes before emergency workers were called.

She was found badly bruised and burned in the family apartment in March. The parents told police their daughter burned herself March tenth in hot water in the bathtub and then slipped and fell down the stairs.

The couple also said they didn't think the child's injuries were severe enough to warrant medical treatment. They found her dead the next day in her bed.

These two people (parents) will have to answer to GOD for what they have done. They killed a precious, innocent child and I'm sure GOD doesn't appreciate that. God will exercise His authority in due time. RIP Michalea.
