A serious accident shuts down busy Georgetown Road.

Police say a Chevy Astro van crossed the center line at Berea Road, colliding with a truck. The accident sent the semi truck through a fence.

The crash happened at around five Wednesday morning, not far from the Scott County line.

The driver of the van, 49-year-old Marlin Leonard, had to be cut from the vehicle. Leonard was wearing his seat belt.

He was transported to the hospital. We're told he was alert, but is listed in serious condition.

The road was closed for several hours as police worked to clean-up the mess and investigate the crash.

I travel this road everyday. It is very dangerous. The roads are not maintained. They are very bumpy and the curve in so many places. People also go really fast and that is what is so dangerous. I hope everyone involved is ok. GOD BLESS

I think the governer and the mayor should travel the stretch of Winchester Road that leads from New Circle into downtown every day so maybe they would want to do something about it. That stretch of road has more bumps than an Eastern Kentucky logging road. But all jokes aside, something does need to be done about the roads in Lexington because it's not just a matter of a nuisance anymore, it's a matter of lives being lost.

Yet another accident on this stretch of Georgetown Road. I think the governor should have to travel this area during rush hour everyday to look first hand at the mess this road really is. Georgetown Rd should have been 4 laned and straightened years ago, how many more lives need to be lost or altered before action is taken? I hope that all involved have a speedy recovery.
