Gubernatorial Candidate Beshear Picks Up Endorsements

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Democrat Steve Beshear picked up endorsements today from three state senators and other prominent Democrats in his bid for governor.

Senator Denise Harper Angel urged Democrats to come together to nominate Beshear, and avoid a runoff. If no one receives at least 40 percent of the vote in next Tuesday's primary, the top-two finishers will meet in a runoff election five weeks later.

Others endorsing Beshear included Senators Tim Shaughnessy and Perry Clark, as well as former Louisville Mayor David Armstrong and former U-S Representative Mike Ward.

Beshear says that as governor, he would aggressively push for a constitutional amendment to allow limited casino-style gambling in Kentucky.
