They call themselves Halfway to Hazard, but they're well on their way to country music stardom.
Two local band mates went from the mountains of eastern Kentucky, to the bright lights of Nashville, as they prepare to tour with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill this summer.
It only took one moment in time...
“It was just like instantaneously they were playing our song, me and Chad kind of looked at each other, and were slapping high fives,” David Tolliver said.
But David Tolliver and Chad Warrix say hearing their first single on the radio knowing their band Halfway to Hazard had arrived goes back farther than the four years they've been playing together and back to their home in eastern Kentucky.
“Chad grew up in Jackson of course, and I grew up in Hindman and Hazard was sort of the cultural meeting place for everybody,” Tolliver said.
Tolliver and Warrix actually knew each other back home, but say they didn't start hanging out until both moved to Nashville, Warrix in 1993 and Tolliver in 98.
Where they are today is with a hit single getting ready to break into the Top 40.
Halfway to Hazard is opening for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill this entire summer on the Soul 2 Soul Tour.
Not bad for a couple of guys from the mountains just trying to let everyone know how to get, Halfway...to Hazard...
Halfway to Hazard has been invited to play at this year's Black Gold Festival in Hazard.
They say they may still be on tour during that time, but hope to play in eastern Kentucky again soon.
