Man Leads Police On Chase While Wearing Handcuffs

A man suspected of leading police on a chase down I-64 was sent to the hospital Wednesday morning.

It started when state police went to a criminal mischief complaint at the Sara Apartments in Frankfort.

Police say Louis Simmons, Junior had marijuana in his car. A trooper took Simmons into custody and put him in the back of a police cruiser.

Police say Simmons started kicking the door and window of the car, so the state trooper opened the door. Police say Simmons then head butted the trooper and took off on foot.

Simmons reportedly jumped in his car and took off, with police in hot pursuit. Simmons ended up on interstate 64 in Shelby County.

Police put down stop sticks on the road, which flattened the tires on Simmon's car. Police say Simmons jumped out of the moving car. He had been traveling at a high rate of speed.

Simmons was taken into custody after a short foot chase. He was taken to the University of Louisville hospital.

Simmons faces a variety of charges including: drug possession, DUI, escape, and fleeing and evading.
