FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - State party chairman Jerry Lundergan says
he's planning to resign next week, now that Kentucky Democrats have
decided on the party's gubernatorial nominee for the fall.
Former Lieutenant Governor Steve Beshear won the party's
nomination last night to challenge Governor Ernie Fletcher in the
fall general election. Lundergan says that should give Beshear the
right to pick the party's new leadership.
Lundergan says the successor should be someone who is capable of raising money from political donors and a person that knows the ins
and outs of politics.
Outgoing state Treasurer Jonathan Miller says he's been
receiving --quote--"an avalanche"--unquote-- of calls from people
wanting him to take over the party.
