27 NEWSFIRST Exclusive - Laurel Co. Man Arrested In Toddler's Death

More Video...

Bradden Collopy died at UK hospital Tuesday night. He was rushed there from his home in Laurel County. Clarence David Mullins, 28, was watching the 16 month old at the time. Mullins had only been dating Bradden's mother for two weeks. Mullins told police the toddler fell from his crib, but police said the story didn't add up. 27 NEWSFIRST was in Laurel County Thursday night as police charged Mullins with murder.

Mullins appeared in Laurel Circuit Court Friday morning. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. Family members have not commented on his arrest.

Initially, Bradden's family and neighbors say the boy died because the Laurel County EMS took too long to respond. But, the Fayette County Coroner says Bradden's head injury was so severe, it's unlikely a quicker emergency response would have helped.

I think authorities should delve into his past. Talk to those around him growing up. I think they would be stunned at just exactly where and with what family he did actually grow up. I have to admit I was stunned by the first newspaper article myself especially by his"adopted"mother and his "adopted" grandmother. If they only knew what kind of kid he actually was while growing up. It's a damned shame the reporters don't do their jobs as they should to deliver the news properly.

As one who works part time for EMS in Laurel, you all need to quit blaming EMS. Those of you that say we are wasting tax payer money, I hope you never need an ambulance. It did not take an hour. You need to read the first news story again. Chief Bridges told you how long it took. Dispatch records don't lie. Every time you go en route to a scene it is recorded and when you get there it is recorded. On the radio and the computer. The news should have pulled the records before trashing EMS, and all of the rest fo you all should be ashamed. We do our jobs to help people, and you all only have negative words for us. We are not perfect and sometimes we may take a wrong turn, but we do our best.

I have a child who's just turned 14 months old and I can't imaging if this was my child. It breaks my heart to know that the child has a beautiful smile and only now because of a cruel evil person... now there's one less smile to look down on. I hope that this beautiful angel comes back and haunt the person who did this to him. Look at him!! How could anybody do anything at all to this beautiful child?? No answer would be right. I'm sorry for the ones that he brought joy to. You are in our prayers and thoughts.

The mother made a mistake, leaving the child with almost a stranger, and she will pay the rest of her life, when she lays her head down on her pillow at night. I ask we all remember her and her family in prayer

My son ran after them and told them to coem on to her hosue. they finally did and when they got her loaded int he ambulance they had to ask directions to the hospital...now u tell me the ambulance service in the corbin area isnt in amess and i will tell u...u'd better hope and pray YOU never need it when u are in this area!

why question the mother? How well do parents know teachers before they send their children to school? A teacher was arrested recently for sexual abuse, priests are convicted for sexual abuse. The public doesn't know the whole story.

Tragic as it is, people are to quick to jump to conclusions, they were not there, they are not fact witnesses. Maybe the guy is telling the truth, mabye the child did fall from the crib. I cannot say . I was not there. Be careful not to be whipped up into a frenzy before all of the facts are in. WE HAVE A TERRIBLE PROBLEM IN THAT THE MEDIA SEEMS TO BE ATTEMPTING TO DEMONIZE ALL MEN AS BAD AND TRY THEM IN THE MEDIA, EVEN BEFORE THEY GET ARRESTED. THIS IS POLITICAL AGENDA YELLOW JOURNALISM. STOP RUNNING THESE STORIES BEFORE ALL THE FACTS ARE IN. YOUR CASTING ALL MEN AND DADS IN A BAD LIGHT. Seems lately you are in to overdrive to highlight each and every story you can find like this, and then when there is none, you rehash an old one.

Why would anyone leave their child with a man they only knew for two weeks. If only more single mothers would take care of the most important part of their lives first, their children, things like this would never happen. I feel the boyfried and the mother should both be charged for the death of a beautiful little boy.

I knew this story was fishy the exact moment I saw the story air Tuesday night. It didn't add up. If he was having an asthma attack, why was he taken outside under a tree, as a neighbor described? Please, I knew that the lady friend was blaming the EMS to divert attention from the child abuser. Corbin Manor already has a bad enough name - this makes it worse. This outcome did not surprise me at all.
