FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Some of the state's top Republicans will
be in Frankfort tonight at a unit rally party officials hope will
let the G-O-P start building momentum for the November elections.
U-S Senators Mitch McConnell and Jim Bunning will be there, as
will U-S Representatives Geoff Davis and Ron Lewis.
The star of the show may be Governor Ernie Fletcher, who won
took the first step in his re-election bid on Tuesday when he won
the G-O-P primary.
Fletcher's win seemed to answer questions within his own party
about his electability. Some state Republican leaders expressed
concern over Fletcher's candidacy in the wake of a hiring scandal
last year.
One noticeable absence tonight will be former Congresswoman Anne
Northup, who lost to Fletcher in the primary. An adviser for
Northup says she didn't want to be a distraction and instead
drafted a letter to send to the rally.
