City Commissioner Says Karaoke Ban Blown Out Of Proportion

More Video...

A city commission meeting just wrapped up Tuesday night in Danville.

On the agenda, commissioners meet to talk about proposed changes to the city's alcohol policy. That included banning karaoke, dancing, and shooting pool in businesses that serve alcohol.

But surprisingly the city commissioner said tonight they never intended to ban karaoke. The commissioner also said the issue was completely blown out of proportion.

There was no voting on the issue to ban karaoke during the meeting. For now the issue has been tabled, which means it will be decided on a later date.

I was at both Commission meetings, two weeks ago and last night. (1) THERE WAS NEVER A PROPOSAL TO BAN KARAOKE, DANCING OR POOL, only a comment that those activities can cause other problems like over-capacity and disorderly conduct. (2) This has been mis-reported in several media and blowm out of context from the beginning. Everyone is all up in arms over something that was NEVER SAID by Commissioners in the first place. (3) There WAS a real proposal to re-state and reinforce some items (see 1 above). (4) That aspect of the ordinance revisions was NOT tabled. It was omitted as redundant since there are already regulations against overcrowding and disorderly conduct. This concept was supported by both law enforcement and fire personnel, also present at both meetings. IT WAS A NON-ISSUE except in the media. Get off it and move on.

If they take away dancing, karaoke, and pool...then they've taken the only reasons left to go to Danville. It is such a boring place anyways. You can't control everything that goes on within your city's borders, and until you realize that, your problems are only going to get worse. As Thomas Jefferson (a Republican) once said, in order for a true democracy to survive, there should be a revolution every 20 years to keep the government from getting too much power. We should heed his advice when our government steps out of line and tries to overstep their authority. I call upon all citizens of Danville to get out and vote next time and remove all elected officials in Boyle County from office for even letting such a stupid idea get discussed at a meeting, much less get voted on.

Ok, so are you banning karoke/pool/singing, why stop there Danville is known for the BRASS BAND FESTIVAL which draws thousands of people from all around the world each year so if karoke and singing which are forms of music are being considered for banning why not ban the BRASS BAND FESTIVAL?!?!?!

Once again an unjustifiable attempt by the religious right Or should I say Reich to push their beliefs and control those individuals that will not see the way they do. Religion stay out of state and public matters or be taxed. Yes we are the laughing stock of the US and we are becoming bigger clowns everyday because of this ignorance and lack of intelligence. Obviously the people making laws can ban these things they They would break a hip dancing, lose their false teeth singing and can't see well enough to hit the white ball. I will leave it at that before i get ticked off.

Simon Cowell would be ashamed. Apollo who? While we are waiting for 3 new graves at Camp Nelson to be filled up with bodies of KY soldiers, what are we debating? Singing, dancing, and shooting pool...Give everyone a choice of safe, recreational diversions from the horrors of what we see going on daily around us. Our children have enough to deal with. Let them sing. Let them dance. Do we ban singing in church next?

No dancing, No Karoke, No shooting Pool, come on people what is the matter with you? I have one question for the city commision. Are you going to tell a soilder who comes home after fighting for this insane country and our freedom that we obvisouly don't have that he or she can't dance, sing karoke, or shoot a game of pool? Who ever came up with this obvisouly has a boring life and lives to make other people miserable come on get a grip this is the REAL world not some footloose movie in the 80's. Next week they may even try to ban you from laughing out loud!! or anything realted to fun at all come on people get a life!

That's the dumbest idea i've heard of. We are living in 2007 and if people feel like dancing, let them. At least they aren't out shooting people. Maybe we should just call in Kevin Bacon since we have a real case of Footloose going on.

Oh, I get it. Drink all you want as long as you don't sing or dance. Geez what century are we in anyway?
