Blogger Removes Derogatory Reference To Northup From Website

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A political blogger who once worked for
Governor Fletcher says he removed a derogatory reference to former
Congresswoman Anne Northup from his blog after Fletcher's campaign
manager asked him to do so.
Brett Hall runs the kypolitics-dot-org Web site and is a former
spokesman for Fletcher. Hall says he posted a July 2002 telephone
message from Jack Conway to Crit Luallen. Both Conway and Luallen
were working in the Paul Patton administration at the time.
In the item posted on his blog yesterday, Hall said Conway
called Luallen to ask if she would play the role of Northup while
he practiced for a debate against her.
In the message, Conway allegedly used a derogatory term to refer
to Northup. Conway said through a spokesman that he didn't recall
using the term. A spokesman for Luallen did not return a call
seeking comment.
Fletcher campaign manager Marty Ryall told The Courier-Journal
that the Fletcher campaign didn't have anything to do with the blog
but that he asked Hall to remove the reference to try to preserve
peace in the Republican Party. The newspaper says Ryall learned
from a reporter that the Northup camp was upset about the post.
Fletcher is seeking re-election and last week defeated Northup
in the primary election.
