SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky grand jury has charged a man who had faced 75-hundred counts of rape and sodomy with 14 counts instead.
Perry Bennington was charged with five counts of sodomy, three counts of rape and six counts of incest.
Detective Scott McGaha of the Bullitt County Sheriff's Department says the numbers don't mean as much to him as the time Bennington will serve. McGaha tells Louisville's Courier-Journal that he's NOT surprised that the number of charges was reduced.
The case involves a female family member in alleged incidents during the 1970s and '80s. The charges were broken into one charge per year in which the incidents allegedly occurred. The woman, who is now 38, alleges that when she was between the ages of six and 22, she was raped and sodomized by Bennington.
