Woman's Dogs Fed Poison

A Lexington woman wants to know why someone poisoned two dogs in her care.

Meredith Peck said the dogs, both King Charles Spaniels, ate dog food tainted with rat poison and antifreeze.

It happened Friday at her home on Aurora Ave.
Peck said when she got home from work, she knew something was wrong.

"They were soak and wet, they looked like they had been in a bathtub, but it was really just urine from their kidneys, that were not functioning, or operating properly," Peck said.

Sadly, one of the dogs was put to sleep Saturday. The other dog is expected to make a full recovery.

Peck is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Only a coward would kill a barking dog. I agree. If you have a problem with someone over something, you talk nicely to the offending person. You try to reason with them. You don't kill innocent creatures to get even. Stupid. I also don't think the owner of these dogs was guilty of anything other than being a good, caring person who trusted her neighbors more than was obviously warranted. I sure hope the police stay on this and get this sicko!!!

Thanks Paul for your comment towards Jessi! he might live in a place where the dogs are loud, but just killing them without confronting the owners are cowardly! the animails don't mean any wrong in barking, it's their instinct to bark. it's up to the owners to make sure they control the barking, if they don't know that anyone has a problem with it then the dog owners will think everything is ok...well i guess they will until one of the dogs end up being poisoned. Be nice people, if you have a problem with a barking dog, nicely tell the owner of the dog. there is a noise ordiance and that should be enforced by the owners before the law has to be envolved. I really hope these people read what has been wrote on this page.....dog lovers out weigh the dog haters! So if you are mean to an animal, Keep that in the back of your mind (you will go to jail or be fined due to the fact their is too many animal lovers).

That may very well be true jessi, but to not report the dog to Animal Control, or to not call or confront the owner of the dog is cowardly, to kill the animal with out doing any of that is just plain wrong.

Gee whiz, there are a lot of sick and stupid people in this country! It sounds like Mark definitely needs to be investigated, and probably sequestered somewhere. Jessi, while I agree that dog owners have a responsibility not to let dogs bark incessantly, a dog barks for a reason that only he and God know. NO dog deserves to be killed. If an owner isn't behaving responsibly there are proper ways to handle it and even laws that prevent excessive barking. However, I seriously doubt that the owner of the Cavaliers - a foster mom - would fall into the irresponsible category. THe dogs were only out briefly. This is the work of a sick and twisted mind and I am getting sick and tired of all of those people in the world. They need to be dealt with in the harshest of ways. Enough is enough!

Kudos to Gail in Lawrenceburg. You are absolutely right about kids acting out and parents just let them go and don't try to discipline them. Kids act 10 times worse than any animals do. I also have six animals under my care and they are like my children and I wouldn't hesitate to seriously harm or even kill someone that tries to hurt or kill them. To whoever did this to these innocent dogs....what goes around comes around. You might not believe in karma now but I guarantee that one day you will.

Mrs. Peck - let me first say how sorry I am for your loss. As a person who worked in animal rescue in the past, I know the heartache that goes along with it. It breaks my heart to see rescued dogs placed in a loving, responsible environment only for them to be terrorized by someone who clearly needs help. To respond to the person stating that Ms. Peck should have kept her dogs up - SHE DID - they were in a fenced-in yard. I wish we could say that for parents who let their children roam the streets unattended. I will not dignify Mr. Mark Lowery's comments. The police need to respond to his remarks, but unfortunately, in this society - the laws protect the rights of such bigots. Better laws need to be put in place to bring these sick people to justice. If they find the person who did this, I feel quite certain that they will only be charged with a misdemeanor. Mrs. Peck, I will keep you in my thoughts, and I applaud you for your rescue efforts.

These little innocent rescue dogs had finally found a safe place to begin to live and their lives were cut short and injured by a person without feeling. Many of these dogs have lived their lives prisoners of man that breed them to death for financial profit. Until Merideth, these dogs likely lived in a small cage, ate poor quality food or feces or even dead animals to survive. Man used them to profit from their babies. Unlike other prisoners, these prisoners of greed have committed no crime, they have not hurt anyone, they have been abused, ignored, left out in the cold and heat until Meredith took them in to love. Whoever you are that committed this crime against these dogs should endure the life they have had to live as someone's "stock" for the rest of eternity.

Wow Jessi of Lexington, I'm glad not all people think like you. So if someone owns a dog that barks, you think it is perfectly ok to poison or hurt that dog? It is not the dog's fault; you need to take it up with the owner. If that doesn't work, you go to the proper authorities and let them handle it. I have a neighbor who lets their cats out and the cats use my garden as a litter box. I have asked them frequently to keep their cats in their house and off my property; so far, no luck. My next step is animal control. If that doesn't work, I take it a step higher but I will in no way hurt that animal. They are doing what animals do and aren't the guilty party because they cannot reason but the owners should be able to figure it out.

Surely Mr. Mark Lowry is using irony, otherwise by his logic we should ,in addition to dog killers accept people killers. How hideous !
