The new numbers are out and it looks as if drought conditions have worsened over the entire state.

According to the Palmer Drought Index, which indicates long-term moisture deficiencies, Eastern Kentucky has been upgraded to a severe drought.

Some of those counties include Pulaski, Laurel, Breathitt, and Pike counties while the rest of the entire state is now in a mild drought.

In order to end the drought, nearly 7" of rain will be needed in the Eastern part of the state and anywhere between 5-6 inches will be needed in the rest of the state.

The Palmer Index numbers for past week will be released Thursday. It's then when we'll learn how the rains of the past week effected the drought status.
