Coach Fired After Winning Season

Champ Ligon has been fired as boys' basketball coach at Bryan Station, according to the Lexington Herald Leader.

Ligon says he was told about the decision Monday by Principal Gladys Peeples.

Peeples made no comment about the decision to the paper.

Ligon led the Defenders to a 24-8 record this past season.

I love coach ligon. he is the greatest coach ever. i am a junior basketball player. without him there is no team. she needs to rethink this process and let him have his job back.

I don't know the coach or the principal or the situation here. All we know is that a coach with a winning record who is well liked was not retained. Over the years it has been my experience that there is almost always more to the story. He may be a great coach, but he was hired as a teacher....and that is the reason he wasn't retained. Just an opinion...

It is sad to see Champ Ligon being fired from the BSHS. He brought the school back from rock bottom. I am proud of him for what he has done for the school. I noticed Dr. Peoples had no comment in regard to the termination of Champ Ligon. She must been afraid to address the media.
