Cousin to Piranha Found In Ohio Lake

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (AP) - A boy from the Cincinnati area and a woman fishing in a southern Ohio lake both thought they'd reeled in piranhas because of all the teeth.

But wildlife experts say they suspect in both cases, the fish was a pacu, a piranha cousin that's native to the Amazon River and prefers vegetarian fare.

Ten-year-old Kyle Owens of southwest Ohio's Clermont County hooked his over the weekend on the Ohio River. Monday evening, Tina
Powell caught hers on a lake in Chillicothe.

Officials with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources say they think the two exotic fish may have been illegally dumped into the waterways by their previous owners.
