Puppy Recovering After Allegedly Being Beaten by Owner

It's being called one of the worst cases of animal cruelty ever in Pulaski County.

Police arrested 30-year-old Ronald Turner Monday morning, for beating, choking, and nearly killing an 8-month-old puppy. Police say a neighbor caught the whole thing on tape.

Investigators say the tape shows Turner striking, choking, and slamming the dog against the ground. At one point, police also claim Turner rolled a dog house on top of the puppy.

The puppy is a Labrador. He was taken from the home by Pulaski County Animal Control, and is now recovering. Turner was arrested and charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty.

If convicted, he could receive up to a year in jail.

This man needs to go to jail for longer than 1 year. Animal cruelty needs to fall under "Assault with the intent to do bodily harm" and should carry the same sentence as if the poor animal was a human.

Everyone is complaining that he is only going to get a year, instead of griping about it, talk to your legislator.

I am a member of the Pulaski County Humane Society and find that this case is a serious crime against a defenseless animal. The man should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and then some. I hope the pup goes to a good home, but please remember there are many homeless animals looking for a forever home.

I THINK WHAT THIS MAN HAS DONE TO THIS SWEET PUPPY IS INSANE,HE SHOULD BE BEATEN HIMSELF,THEN HE MAY REALIZE THE WRONG HE HAS DONE. AND AS FOR D.LESTER IN LONDON,YOU ARE AN IDIOT,YOU MUST BE A MONSTER YOURSELF,YOU MUST BE A MISERABLE PERSON WITH A SAD LIFE! THIS PUPPY IS A CREATION OF GOD AND DESERVES KINDNESS,IF HIS OWNER COULD NOT PROVIDE THAT HE SHOULD HAVE NOT GOT THE DOG IN THE FIRST PLACE. OH, AND BY THE WAY YOU TALK, YOU MUST NOT GET OUT MUCH IN THE REAL WORLD,DO YOU LIVE UNDER A ROCK IN SOME BACK WOODS?

It's heartbreaking to think this poor excuse of a human can actually get the dog back after such abuse. We can only pray the judge/jury has the sense to see the evil in him when he comes to trial and gives him the maximum sentence - no plea bargain. If he's such a tough guy, let him take his punishment. And hopefully the judge will make sure there is an order in place forbidding him to ever own another animal.

I would like to know why in the world this crime is only punishable with a year in jail. It makes my blood boil that people could defend such a coward. Would you rather see this guy walking free, around your children? He didn't just repremand the dog, he beat the dog...even rolled a dog house over it! His temper is obviously out of control! If the owner of this dog couldn't do a better job of "training" this dog than to choke it and beat it, then he doesn't need an animal. Take it to the pound so a loving person could adopt it. As far as hunting and fishing are concerned, I've never seen a person torture these animals before killing them. If they do, then they need to be punished as well.

They should throw the book at this idiot and that isn't enough. If he would do this to a little 8 mo old puppy, he would do it to any human as well. We don't need people like this walking around on our earth. What a jerk. Get rid of him!

Hey Melissa, we are caring for our next generation when we become outraged at an act like this and make it clear that it is intolerable because the same people that abuse animals are or will abuse children and anyone else as well. We need to stop these people before they move onto people because when it is no longer "fun" or a "rush" to abuse animals they will move onto children and/or people. And it's nice to see the two rednecks from London are such big animal lovers.
