Southern Baptists Approve Plan for Sex-Offender Database

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (AP) - The Southern Baptist Convention has voted to ask its executive committee to study the feasibility of creating a database of pastors who have committed sexual misconduct. The overwhelming vote came without debate yesterday in San Antonio.

The committee is required to report back to next year's convention. The database would include names of those accused of, personally confessed to, or legally convicted of sexual harassment or abuse.

Earlier this year, the Web site listed two registered sex offenders as living on campus at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Seminary spokesman Lawrence Smith said that because of rules on student confidentiality, he couldn't confirm the students were registered sex offenders. He said one of the two graduated in May with a master of arts in Christian counseling. The other man is not currently registered as a student.

I think it is time, actually way past time, for our lawmakers make major changes. Anyone who is a registered sex offender should NEVER be let out of jail to harm or kill again. When does common sense kick in with our lawmakers to protect our children!
