Two men decide not to wait for rescue crews and save a dog from a frozen pond.
The daring rescue happened along Bethlehem Road in Madison County.
6-year-old "Outlaw," a Siberian Husky, is resting comfortably in his owner's basement after he nearly drowned in a freezing pond early Wednesday morning.
"I was leaving for work and I heard a loud barking and howling," explained Byron Blevins. "I shined my lights on our farm pond and noticed a big husky dog that had fallen through the ice."
Blevins says he knew who the dog belonged to and quickly got his neighbor, David Bowman, on the phone.
The men sprang into action after calling the rescue squad, knowing that time was ticking for "Outlaw."
"He went under a few times," Blevins said. "I couldn't let him drown. Wasn't gonna let him drown."
"We used a pool float and he scooted across the ice," Blevins explained. "We were able to get him out. Then, a member of the rescue squad showed up."
David Bowman, "outlaw's" owner, says the dog's fur was literally frozen and the dog was exhausted from the ordeal.
Nobody knows just how long the 80-pound dog was in the icy water.
"The time I saw him to the time we got him out; over and hour or hour-and-a-half," Blevins said.
Bowman says his lucky dog will get plenty of TLC and as many blankets as he wants.
He believes "Outlaw" may have been chasing ducks when he got trapped in the pond.
