Interstate 75 Reopens After Seventeen Hours

A traffic nightmare for drivers today after an accident blocks traffic for nearly seventeen hours.

The accident occurred early this morning on Interstate 75 when a tanker truck blew a tire heading northbound.

The driver lost control and the tanker flew over the median wall and into the southbound lanes. Police say a UPS truck hit the tanker.

The driver of that truck, 35 year-old Johnny Dopp of Tennessee, was killed instantly.

Southbound lanes between the 76 mile marker and the 62 mile marker were closed forcing drives to take detours that were also becoming congested with traffic.

The tanker was carrying liquid sulpher. That sulpher is the reason for the nearly seventeen hour back-up for drivers.
