Popular Lexington Hangout Making A Comeback

There's a new edition of an old business getting ready to open in Lexington.

Champs Skate and Entertainment Center will open in about two weeks.
Joe Champa has been operating roller rinks in Lexington since 1974, and his father was in the business before him.

"My dad started with the tent rinks," Champa said. "He would around to Tennessee and Kentucky in the warm weather."

He says the new version of Champs is bigger and better than ever.
The facility for skating is about 4,000 square feet larger than what was available before. There are larger party rooms, and even a full service restaurant for parents.

The rink is decorated in bright neon colors. Champa says it will give kids the feeling of going to a club.

Champs will also have a laser arena, called the Lost City Laser Arena. It features state of the art laser equipment.

Champa hopes to have the new Champs Skate and Entertainment Center ready for business within the next two weeks.

The New Champs Skate and Entertainment Center is located near Meijers and Fayette Mall off Reynolds Road.

I WILL NOT be "enjoying" Champs for that price. Shame on you!!! For that price I can take my family elsewhere and have a better time instead of listening to teenagers curse each other out. No wonder kids are in so much trouble these days. They have nothing to do and when something does open who could afford to let your children go. Middle class people dont have a chance!!!

wow, I was hoping to be able to enjoy the new place in its first days open, but thanks to the 25 price tag, we just went to the movies. Great buissness tactic, is this a ploy by the movie companies? Oh, for the record, my girlfriend is related to one of the "VIPs" who got to go on thrusday. She said it cost 25 to get in, and its 8 dollars for one game of laser tag, and 15 for 3, so essentially, you have to pay close to 40 dollars for a night at champs, enjoying everything it has to offer. If they keep this up, I cant see myself, or anyone I know ever going there. Shame.

Hey, I have a neice that works there and she states that that 25.00 is for opening night that includes laser tag. After the grand opening it will not be that expensive. she believes that laser tag will be 8.00 for the first game and additional games will be 5.00 extra. She says its not gonna be bad. I used to go to Champs every Friday night and Saturday night and it is a safe place for kids. Why would u drive to Louisville or Danville and waste the money in gas and spend lots more time driving rather just pay the cost for your child to be close to home.

I believe, from looking at the website, that the $25 price is only for the grand opening which is June 29th. You will be able to go for a much lesser price starting after July 4th. I don't know that for a fact, but this is what I think.

Go to Finley's Fun center in Danville. Very affordable, less than $5 to skate and $6 on Sundays when it is all you can eat pizza and drinks for that price!

Does Champs think parents, especially parents of elementary school age children, will be able to pay $25 per child to go skating? Is this the standard rate or a Grand Opening "special?

over $20 to skate? it's even more of a shameless rip-off than when i was a kid shelling out $7 every weekend (price includes the public school provided discount passes) to participate in the orgiastic chaos of trampling, screaming, and general mayhem. and i don't know whether it's good for kids to feel like they're "clubbing," but that sure is why we blew all our allowance there. that and the much-older high school boys.

What great news that Champs is being resurrected! I sincerely hope Mr. Champa will find a place in his big heart to allow children from low income families to have the "Champs Experience".
