Man Gunned Down While Repossessing Car

A man trying to reposess a car was gunned down last night outside an apartment on Laredo Drive.

The man arrested for the crime, 20-year-old Brandon Robinson, appeared in court Friday afternoon to answer to a murder charge.

It happened Thursday night on Laredo drive between Camelot and Redding roads.

Police say David S. Smith, 40, was sitting in the driver's seat of a car when he was shot several times.

Witnesses tell 27NEWSFIRST Smith was repossessing a Chevy Cutlass Sierrra, the car that the suspect had been driving, when Robisnon became angry and shot him.

Visitation for smith is sunday from 5 to 8 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road.
The funeral will be 10:30 monday morning... also at Kerr Brothers.

The Smith family says David died doing what he always would do... helping a friend.
They say David wasn't a repo man, in fact he'd never done it before until his friend from Cars 'R' Us asked him to.
His family tells says David was a father of three, one of his sons just recently returned from serving in iraq.
The 45-year old grew up in lexington and was soon to be married. He was an avid fisherman and competed in some of the major fishing tournaments across the state.

It's sad that anyone had to die but the proper thing would have been to go with the police, knock on the door and let the other man they were going take the car back legally. When you take the law into your own hands this is how these things happen.

I can't believe this thug would kill someone over a car. If he knew that his car was in repo status, why was the car still sitting in his driveway? He should of parked in a closed garage. Repo people are just doing their job. This thug should of fulfilled his obligation and paid his debt. I'm sick and tired of people in this country that blame others for their problem. He deserves to get the death penalty. He just saw this as an excuse to kill somebody. However, the (edited) should of thought it out more clearly. Their are alot of loop holes in this case and if he isn't found guilty their is something wrong with the law of the land. On the other hand, the victim should of been protected himself. He was a sitting target. Kentucky is heavily armed and these hicks don't think twice about shooting someone and then barrying them in the woods. (edited)

Anonymous.. are you kidding me? Don't tell me to chill out. First of all, I was not thinking about myself. I was thinking about my childern. Secondly, this is a very good area to live in.. only a few that ever cause any problems. As far as the whole crack thing.. what are you talking about? I was outside with my childern at the time. I'm sure there are people who sit in their homes and do that in any area.. but I'm not one of them.. nor do I know anyone who does. You are right about one thing. This is about Mr Smith's family and their loss. My heart goes out to them.. and at the same time I am allowed to be angered by the danger my childern were put into. As far as Mr Robinson.. may God have mercy on him.. because I can't find any in my heart for him at the moment. My god... it was a stupid car.

Angel chill out... God was watchin over your children and they was not there! I'm glad you are concern about your kids.. i know there are crack heads around the area who allow there kids to run around while they smoke crack in the house... i understand that you are upset... but baby girl stop thinking about yourself... its not about you... its about Mr. Smith's family and there lost and the family of Mr. Robinson... there are alot of people going thou alot right now and you are making alot of thing worse by writing about how your kids were outside... God has a special hand over your kids and know he is watching over the children... Your kids were effected by this yes... but stop and think about Mr. Smith's children and Mr. Robinson child... and how both are without a father now! Pray and everything will be okay! God has everything under control...! To Mr. Smith's family... I'm sorry for your lost.. I have a special prayer for you at night! Everyone Makes mistakes and the only thing you can do about it is ask for God to guide you down the right path and ask for forgiviness! If God can forgive all as his children we can too!

He should be executed for killing this man, the point is that you gotta pay your car payment anyone not knowing that is an idiot and should not be driving anyway, I guess when he shot he will claim he was either called a N-bomb or something to make him mad, more likely than not he was out riding around smoking weed listening to gangsta rap. Enjoy prison, take vaseline...

I keep hearing about David Smith not being a repo man because he was on his first assignment, but i gurantee that Brandon is classified as a KILLER even though that was his first time. Get a grip people, throw the color out, A MAN SHOT AND KILLED ANOTHER MAN, not matter what color and how many sides you think there are to this story....How would you feel if it were your Father or friend killed helping out like he ALWAYS did. Get off David's back you idiots!!!! HE IS THE VICTIM.
