A no usage water advisory has been issued for all customers of the Cumberland water system in Harlan County.
This means residents should not use water for drinking or cooking.
Cumberland mayor Loretta Cornett says she's still not sure exactly what caused the problem or how long it will take to get it fixed.
After the no usage advisory is lifted, there will be a boil water advisory.
Residents are also asked to restrict their use of water for things like watering lawns or washing cars.
