Western Kentucky Mother Of 7 Charged After Children Found Malnourished

BRIENSBURG, Ky. (AP) - A western Kentucky woman was charged with criminal abuse after authorities found her seven children malnourished and living without food, water and electricity.

Andrea Lynch, of Briensburg in Marshall County, was arrested Monday evening. Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Byars, said the children, ranging in age from 11 months to 11 years, were living in an old mobile home and two nearby campers.

The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Service's Division of Protection and Permanency asked the sheriff's department to investigate on Friday.

There was no food in the house, and water and electricity had been cut off, Byars said. The children were evaluated at Marshall County Hospital and found to be malnourished, Byars said.

All seven children were placed in foster care. Byars said the sheriff's department continued to investigate.

"It was pretty shoddy living conditions," Byars said.

I cant help but comment on this story. My husband lost a good job a year ago today. Then 2 months later I was laid off. We had to move out of a very nice house. Had to go on food stamps. We stuggled hard for several months. Then he got a job driving a truck. Well our luck he was involved in a wreck back in April. His company put him a a hold. Hes still on that hold, but has since gotten another job. Sounds like Im rambling, but Im making a point. In the past year we have sold almost everything we own. We even sold my car so buy Christmas gifts for our 3 kids. So heres my point. When you have kids and hit hard times, you beg, you plead, and you do anything and everything legal to take care of those kids. Its very hard but it can be done. We live in a trailer park now, not something we like, but something we have to do. The kids come first regardless of pride or anything else. Im sure that woman could have gotten help from the state. Low income housing (sometimes you dont even have to pay any rent), food stamps, even money assistance. There are programs that help with heating and cooling. There is no reason what so ever for those poor little children to have been living like they were in this awful heat we have been having. My heart goes out to them, the children not the mother. I know for a fact that they did not have to be living like that. One last thing for the family member "anommis" if you cared so much why didnt you take them in for awhile and help them out. God bless those children they are alot better off now in nice cool homes with plenty to eat.

English Teacher......How about starting where the family member said and I quote, "u have no idea, you just hear the news story and listen to what they have to say, you never met them". Comment on that, that is the only thing you could possibly have a little facts too and if you don't there are web sites that give you statistics on the News Stories and how factual are they! You don't know this family so just pass on all that!!!!!!!!!

nobody should judge this mother by the way the may have found these children or even the living situation. it is awful hard trying to raise 7 children and not as for help becasue you are scared they will take your children and seperate them. dont judge the mother until you have walked in her shoes. i was there and know what it is like. even family turns their backs when you need them most just to turn around and take your kids from you because they cant have their own or want to hurt you so they mess with your children. it is a shame but prayer now can help this family.

I think this is such a sad story. Why didn't the mother try to get assisted housing food stamps or something. But instead let her kids starve and live in filth. Did no one know this was going on for so long? At least it was found before it was too late. Lord Bless those children and look over them.

Sassy...you hit the nail on the head. If anybody is agreeing with Rene, you really need to step back and take a better look at the situation. Seven kids is right! This is where forced sterilzation needs to be used. If you are poor, why in the world would you continue to have children if you can't even support the ones you already have? Yes Mel, I agree with you about the father/fathers or sperm donors as someone else has calld them. Responsibility for ones actions is what is needed nowadays. We don't hold anyone accountable for anything. 11 months to 11 years old were the ages of these kids. Seems this woman spent a lot of time on her back when she should have been taking care of the ones she already had. MRC states " No wonder the world is the way it is....we are suppose to love our neighbor and look out for each other..." You have it all wrong MRC. The reason the world is the way it is directly correlates to people not taking responsibility for their actions and always blaming things like drugs, alcohol, lack of education, etc. If you want to be an adult, be responsible and act like an adult.

Seven kids! Come on....any educated, intelligent, and responsible person knows that if you are "poor", then dont have seven kids! So how many different fathers are involved with these little ones? There are plenty of nonprofit organizations out there to assist, but at some point the law enforcement/social services have to step in like they did. Seven kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!
