New Security Measures at this Fourth of July's Red, White and Boom

Many will flock to downtown Lexington for the fourth of July Red, White and Boom festivities.

Although the same amount of fun is expected to be had, some changes in security measures have been made.

Event officials tell 27 NEWSFIRST there will be two security check points at each entrance of the event, along with a large gate that will surround the perimeters.

This year, spectators will not be allowed to bring any grills, food and drinks. Event co-ordinators say food and drinks will have to be bought inside the event.

Security officers will be checking people to make sure no food or drink items are brought inside. But they do say people are allowed to bring items that keep them cool such as large umbrellas, chairs and tents.

Street Closures For July 4th:

6 am to 9 pm: Vine from Broadway to Rose Street

11 am to 6 pm: Main Street from Midland to Broadway

12 Noon until 4 pm: Midland between Third and Main

2 pm until 5 pm: Rose Street from High to Second Street and all intersecting streets.

I don't think they take into consideration that some people can't eat some of the food that is served due to health concerns. There are many people who can't eat the greasy food without getting sick. I think that there should be something done about the alcohol sales. When I was there last year, the majority of the people were drunk. Is this not supposed to be an event for the whole family? I don't have a problem with a few drinks, but there are alot of children and teenagers there.

Straight up, I think this is partially a skeem to make money as much as it is a "safety skeem" because they charge a buttload for food at events like's ridiculous in my crazy in fact that I'm not attending this year.
