Lexington Airport officials say decision needed on runway project

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Blue Grass Airport officials say they need
a decision before January on whether the state will help pay for a
runway relocation project.

Officials are considering relocating the airport's general
aviation runway, the one from which Comair Flight 5-1-9-1
mistakenly took off before crashing last August.

Michael Gobb, the airport's executive director, says officials
want to be ready for the Alltech F-E-I World Equestrian Games in
20-10.

Governor Fletcher called the General Assembly into a special
session this week to deal with this and other issues, including
incentives for energy companies.

House lawmakers adjourned shortly after the session began. They
say the session is too costly and unjustified.

Gobb says the airport board needs to decide in January whether
to go ahead with the project.

Jennifer Brislin, a spokeswoman for House Speaker Jody Richards,
however, says the decision can wait until January when the
legislature reconvenes.

If Kentucky is going to fork over the cash for a new runway, I could use some money for a new driveway. I want to be ready for the Equestrian Games too...

Who owns the Airport? Let them find the money. Don't ask the government for a handout.

Jody is right, The cost for pacifiers and diapers for him and his buddies would no doubt bankrupt the state

Michael Gobb and the airport board weren't in a hurry to get any projects done when 5191 crashed due to a host of negligent actions at the airport, FAA, and others involved, so I don't know why they act like they need to know an answer now. If Ernie Fletcher hadn't vetoed it during the regular session, it wouldn't be a problem now, would it? It can wait til January, and the airport will be just fine. They are just being alarmists. First they said they needed to know or else they would lose the funding from the feds. When Jody Richards confirmed from the feds that was a lie, now they say they need to know because of the FEI games and making a decision in January. I call BS on this one, they are just being impatient and want an answer now, like a 5 year old who wants the newest toy at the department store. Grow up and be patient, and you'll get your turn.

why do we need another runway for the equestrian games? do the horses have an event on the runway? is it like a drag race? last time I checked, planes could take off AND land there already.
