Case Against Fayette County Board Of Education

Jury selection began today in a civil case against the Fayette County Board of Education.

Carol Lynne Maner claims that she and others were the victims of sexual abuse at Beaumont Junior High and Lafayette High Schools back in the mid 70's and early 80's.

Maner says the school system ignored and even concealed the alleged abuse.

Since Maner filed the suit in 2003 another student has come forward.

I agree that she deserves her day in court just like every other citizen. But, I must say I also have reservations on why now? Why not sooner? This happened back in the 70's and 80's. I think the lady would have been strong enough to come forward before now. She has to realize at this point most everyone is going to believe she is just wanting a money settlement. If I were on the jury I would probably throw the case out the window at the first mention of money just because of the time frame...

I believe Carol Maner is telling the truth, much less then another person came forward as well on the same incident. Fayette County School system would do anything to keep this hushed from the public.

Why were they not interested when it happened?!? PLEEEZE! They were interested - nobody listened. Money cannot "fix" what happened to these unfortunate people.

I am not surprised about the cover up. There have been many more coverups that have taken place since then in other depts not sexual related though there probably are more of those too, that if anyone mentioned them, they would lose their jobs. I commend someone finally coming forward. Maybe others will gain courage thru this to stand up against coverups and corruption.

<---Michelle They claimed they tried but the school system ignored/concealed alleged abuse. Also, victims of abuse are not always strong enough to come forward during their abuse due to embarassment, etc. I'm sure justice will prevail.

i was not selected but was part of the jury selection. my opinion is that we should not form opinions until the case is heard. i am 28 and i remember girls who were easy to lead into bad situations back in school. with all that we hear about teachers sleeping with students, what would make us think this is not possible that it was possibly even worse 30 years ago? when teachers were not scared into steering away from this type of misconduct at least by seeing others 'hanged' for it in the news constantly the way we do today? this woman deserves her day in court

I DO NOT KNOW THE EVIDENCE IN THIS CASE. I HAVE SEEN HOW COVERUPS ARE A COMMON PRACTICE IN KY. IF YOU KNOW THE RIGHT PEOPLE YOU CAN GET BY WITH ALMOST ANYTHING. I LOVE WHEN PEOPLE STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT. OUR STATE NEEDS SOME PLACE FOR CITIZENS TO TURN WHEN "THE GOOD OLE BOY SYSTEM" IS REPLACING WHAT IS RIGHT. I THINK THE MEDIA SHOULD BE THIS PLACE.
