Knott County Government Offices Raided

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Federal authorities on Tuesday raided government offices in an eastern Kentucky county with a history of
misspending funds.

Knott County Judge-Executive Randy Thompson confirmed the search, but said he had "no idea why they're here."

FBI agents executed a search warrant over several county government offices, including Thompson's, the county clerk's and the offices of the county finance director and treasurer. Calls to the FBI were not immediately returned.

Thompson, owner of the local radio station who took office in October, suspected the investigation came from allegations that he traded road-paving projects for votes.

The Republican judge-executive denied the allegations, saying they stemmed from partisan politics in the predominantly Democratic county.

The county has a troubled financial history. In August, an audit of the county revealed misuse of a judge-executive's credit card and failure to report federal grant money, among other things.

How do you people even know that Judge Thompson is guilty of these accusations? I firmly believe that he is doing a great job. He has opened the swimming pool, built a skate park, ATV Center and the Youth Complex is under construction. He has done more in his short time in office that has been done in the past 20 years. Why don't these sore losers quit trying to cause trouble and let our county grow? Maybe when Ms. Auditors quits listening to some of her democratic friends around here that are just mad they aren't in the office we will have a better place! Why do people want to get rid of someone that has brought us more than we have had in years.

I remember that in the early 80's, everyone new that Knott County has always been the only area in the world for Dirty politics such as string voting for the democrat party, everyone kicks in a certain amount of money such as $20 dollars, for 6 different offices and you have a quick $120.00. This has been old news and now in 2007 it's being Investigated. Give me a break, good luck. I believe that the county needs new direction. Vote John Calhoun Jr, and clean the county up.

I'm sure that Pike County as well as other counties in the state of Kentucky has its share of politicans that are not always honest too. Just because some of our local officials are being raided by the FBI does not mean that the rest of the people in Knott County are dishonest. I, like alot of the people in Knott County used to be very proud to say we were from Knott County but all of that has changed because of a few people. I hope that in the near future Knott County is cleaned up and is again a county that we Knott Countians can be proud of.

This is how the honest people of Knott County get poorer and poorer and the higher ups keep getting richer!!! Votes have been bought for years and this is way out of hand. Glad someone finally got a clue and I pray that honesty will prevail!!!!!

"Dirty" politics have been going on in Knott County since Jesus went back to Heaven and it's about time the FEDS look into all the crooked political issues. Hopefully the FBI will clean that county up.

so was this statement: "The county has a troubled financial history. In August, an audit of the county revealed misuse of a judge-executive's credit card and failure to report federal grant money, among other things." was this statement in context with Thompson or a previous Judge Exc?
