Kentuckians Prepare For Visit From Presidential Candidate

There's plenty of excitement in an eastern Kentucky town where folks are getting ready for a visit by democratic presidential candidate John Edwards.

His stop in Floyd and Letcher counties will be part of a three day, eight state tour, highlighting poverty in America.

It's not every day someone running for president decides to stop off in the small towns of Prestonsburg and Whitesburg, but John Edwards is making it a priority to visit these underprivileged areas.

His visit is getting mixed reaction from those who live there.

Edwards is campaigning on change. He hopes to change the number of Americans living in poverty, so he's stopping off in eastern Kentucky address the issue.

Some people we spoke to say his visit highlights the problems of the community, but they welcome the discussion.

Edwards has already visited the 9th ward of New Orleans as part of his poverty tour. He will arrive in Kentucky on Wednesday morning at eleven. He'll speak at the Appalshop in Whitesburg. The doors open at 10:30. The event is open to the public.

That's what you should focus on Mary, haircut. He's the only one campaigning in our area and expressing desire to help the working poor. You need to look past what you are being told to think and formulate your own thoughts.

Being originally from Pike County, I sincerely appreciate John Edwards taking the time to come visit. Sure, it's not going to solve all the problems, as it didn't when Kennedy, Clinton, Johnson, etc came, but at least it highlights it and brings an economic boost to the area, even if it's only to feed the hundreds of media who will be there. John Edwards is the ONLY candidate who will even utter the word homeless in the past 20 years, I can't remember there being any discussion on homelessness in this nation since the Reagan administration (and he didn't care about it, it was people running against him). If you act like it doesn't exist, it does NOT go away, and I commend John Edwards for all the hard work he does in this area.

If there are any hairdresser/barbers in town who want to make a good buck, open your doors and give this guy a haircut. I read in the paper that he pays BIG BUCKS to get his doo on.

How about posting the address and directions for Edwards' 1:30 appearance in Prestonsburg?

I don't mean to be mean, but it's hard to hear a talk on poverty from a man who paid $400 for a haircut.
