Barnett In Court For Murder Of Clay City Police Chief

More Video...

Today the man accused of killing Clay City Police Chief Randy Lacy was in court.

Tensions were running high in Powell County, as family members of both the accused and the victim were present for the preliminary hearing for James Barnett.

A short scuffle in the courtroom corridor between Barnett's son and the son of Randy Lacy had family members emotional before the hearing even began.

Inside the courtroom, things were considerably calmer, as Barnett's attorneys told the judge that they plan to file several motions, which will be heard on August 23.

Barnett is charged with one count of capitol murder

Prosecutors have already said they plan to seek the death penalty against Barnett.

I can't beleive they are thinking about letting this man pled insane. The courts must be insane. This is crazy and to many people get off on pleding insane, people know how to play the system and how to act crazy. And it seems to me he knew how to play it pretty well. We all need to pray for both family's our court systems and government!

I do not believe in the death penalty. I pray some this country will do away with it.

Annon/Amous Who are you hoping got a black eye? I am not sure but I think you need to read the story again... It was the two involved, the son of the victim and the son of the perpertrator of the crime... Why would you say that about too teenage boys... I am sure emotions were high and I have no idea who or whom started the commotion but if Randy was the man you all say and seem to think he was then do you honestly think he would want his son to resort to a fist fight with the son? I don't think so... If he is as good as everyone stated and went on about for weeks then he would want the healing process to begin... God has a reason and purpose for everything but I don't think that Randy's death was suppose to cause the commotion with the children. I believe if you look at the big picture it is trying to draw everyone closer. Show that you should have kindness in your heart and soul for everyone. Even the ones that most people wouldn't take the time of day to spit on let alone speak to, like Mr. Barnett. Randy seemed like a man above all that and the good Lord may have let his life been taken to better a lot of other things in our society even if we can't see it doesn't mean it isn't so!

Jamie Barnett is not insane, he killed Randy in COLD BLOOD. Even if the courts dont get justice for "Big Randy" then our God in heaven will!! May God continue to comfort the Lacy family through this whole trial. And I believe since it happened in Powell Co. the trail should stay here in Powell Co. It would be unfair to Randy of it didnt!!!!!

Unfortunately the family of the late Randy Lacy has to not only live with what this "man" has done, but now they get to watch him and his family make a mockery of our court system, and watch him get alot of "air time" while doing it. Anyone who kills someone unprovoked, is indeed crazy...but still this man is GUILTY. We can only hope he stays in jail this time so not another police officer has to arrest him yet again.
