Harlan County students are getting ready to go back to school and they're getting some help from the sheriff's department.

Chaplain Corps sponsored the first back to school bash at the Harlan Civic Center Wednesday night.

It's time for many to start thinking about going back to school.

They may not want to think about it, but police say they also need to think about something else.

To get the kids moving on the right track, the Harlan County Sheriffs Department sponsored their first back to school bash.

They want to make sure the kids have everything they need before school starts.

Kids and their parents waited in long lines and through a heavy downpour to get a package of supplies.

Once the supplies were in hand, kids took aim at balloons, rode a train, and became familiar with the sheriffs department while learning about the dangers of drugs.

The Harlan County Sheriff's Department raised enough money to provide one thousand packages of school supplies for local students.
