Police Try To Figure Out If Three Church Burglaries Are Connected

Police are trying to figure out if three church burglaries in less than a week are connected.

Right now, police say there's no link and no arrests have been made.

Over the weekend WYMT told you about a burglary at the Happy Bible Church in Perry County.

Police now say there were two other church burglaries before that one in Letcher County.

Pastor Ellis Adams knew something wasn't right at Blair Branch Old Regular Baptist Church Friday morning.

The kitchen microwave was on the floor inside the front door, and the sound system was unplugged.

A lawn mower and weed eater were missing from the shed outside.

But Ellis wasn't the first pastor to find his church burglarized...or the last.

The Kentucky State Police Hazard Post is investigating three separate church burglaries.

“One in the Vicco community of Perry County, one in the Jeremiah community in Letcher County, and also one in the Isom community in Letcher County,” Trooper Randy Combs said.

Isom Presbyterian Church is just a few miles from Blair Branch Baptist, but so far police say they have no solid evidence that the burglaries are related.

“There's nothing to indicate that at this time. We've had some general information that we've been given, but nothing specific to follow up on at this time,” Trooper Combs said.

The only specifics are about what has been taken: electronic equipment and cash from Isom Presbyterian and Happy Bible churches, and the outdoor appliances from Blair Branch.

Pastor Adams says whether or not the same people are behind these crimes, he doesn't think the burglars are from his community.

“These young people in this hollow and neighborhood really help this church and I don't think they would do anything like that,” Pastor Adams said.

State police are asking anyone with information about any of these burglaries to call them.
