Girl's Lip Nearly Ripped Off By Pit Bull

A four-year-old Boyle County girl is recovering after her lip was nearly ripped off by a pit bull.
It happened Wednesday night at the girl's home.
Destiny Campbell's mother says the girl was hugging the dog, named Harley, when it suddenly attacked.
Destiny was taken to the hospital, where she had to have 20 stitches.
Doctors say her wound could take up to a year to heal.
Harley, as well as two other pit bulls the family has, were all taken to the Humane Society.
Harley was euthanized as a precaution. There's no word yet on what will happen to the other two dogs.

I would like to do a follow up on my child. Let me tell you that she cried because Rocky and Bella (our other family pits) were put to sleep. She wanted them to come home, and the day after she was hurt we went to the pound for her to say bye to them. She was upset that she could not love on them, just as she did Harley. She is not, nor was she ever scared of any dog! We have since adopted a German shepherd, and mut dog, and she plays with them every day. I would also like to say that yes I was wrong for letting her around a dog while it was being fed, but I have Most defiantly learned my lesson. I am truly sorry that my daughter had to be hurt for me to do this. As for the stupid people that say we did not cooperate with removal of the dog, Destyne's uncle had come to my house and was on his way to have the dog killed. Her father and I were both at the hospital with her. I am truly sorry that 2 innocent dogs were put to sleep in the process.

@Paul. My pit was rasied around a dog cat and baby. when I got him at 9months I had a cat a kitten and a great niece born. SO far he hasnt bitten anyone or any animal. When the cows next door got loose yeah he barked at them but he did so on the end of a 500lb rated chain. Why? How would you feel if you went out to pee and saw a girafe in your yard? Same thing when you bring a city raised animal to the country. Its an adjustment period and you the owner shoudl be prepared to socialize your animal to prevent soem bodys stupid toy dog that chases cars and causes accidents from becoming a chew toy. I think we need to start registering human breeding because obviously from the stupid emotional never read anything but the news in your life comments we have here its not teh dogs we need to put down. At one time women owning property was illegal and slavery was legal. SO go ehaed an try to argue right or wrong by man made laws.

For all you dog lovers, Why not get a pet that is not a killer of humans especally small defenseless children. You will think twice when your loving pit bull eats up your neighbors child and you are in jail for the rest of your life or lose your home and all that you own in a law suit, because I guarantee you that if your bit bull hurts my family you will pay to the full extent of the law. A pit bull is bred to kill you can not take that out of the animal no matter what you do. I guess some people will go through life hoodwinked and I guess the rest of us will have to suffer because of their stupidity!

Poor child, Poor PitBull.... The child didn't know any better it seems she was not taught by her family to stay away. Any dog will become agressive when it is eating! Even a Toy poodle will! It isn't the dog's fault either it used the instincts that Mother Nature gave to him it seems. If the dog had attacked with no provocation then I would say you should have put him to sleep, but this dog felt threatened as well. Pits wouldn't have such a bad name if you didn't have ignorant owners that teach them to be mean and to fight!

Pits are wonderful animals and loyal to the family....IF they are raised right. The parents should have known to not have there child in the way of Harley while feeding.. Thats crazy. Any dog can bit or turn mean during feeding. I have a 8 month old blue pit and plan on getting more. My 7 & 3 yr old love him to death and he does them too. But my children also know that feeding time is his special time and know one is to bother him... I am sick of hearing this crap about pits. It is becoming an every week thing. Its time to talk about something else.

pit lover, congrats for having a good family pet.. What would happen to any other animal if it comes into the path of that pit? Will it play, attack, what? Several friends have had " good pits" and by in large they were fine with family members, but lethal to animals that should stray into there path. A friend had a totally sweet staffordshire terrier, that happened upon a calf in a barn.. it killed the calf.. had to be put down.. Anybody stupid enough to have dogs like this around a 4 y/o is irresponsible. The parents should be charged and prosecuted for child endangerment. Dalmations might bite you but they're not known to kill people, pits, cairns, rotties, akitas, and dobies are..I hope thats the case pit lover, but what if your wrong? Do you want your kids or yourself in that situation?

Dalmations give minor bites.....Pits KILL You Stupid Stupid People! Whats next?...you going to compare your pit bull to a kitten? Saying Kittens bite too!?? Ignorant people like you are what gives pits a bad name...4 year old kids dont mix with pits...I say charge the parents...its their fault!

Pit Bulls are worthless creatures that have no reason to be on this earth (rip harley lol) this little girl is lucky we are not saying rip for her..... my son was attacked by one of these good for nothing dogs and all he was doing was petting the mutt.... in my opinion people that own these types of dogs are the kind of people that have something(drugs stolen merchandise) that they are afraid someone will steal from them. I wish they would completely out law this bred of animal or at the very least make it so they have to be in a pin at all times!!! Wake up people these dogs that have a bad name have a bad name for a reason and its not because they are wonderful animals
