Prank Backfires On Lexington Teenagers

A group of Lexington teenagers apparently picked the wrong target early Tuesday morning when they decided to throw eggs at vehicles from their car.

One of the cars that got egged was the private car of an off-duty Lexington Police officer.

After looking for the suspected car, police finally pulled it over at Reynolds and Nicholasville Roads.

Police say they gave the teens tickets and turned them over to their parents.

I would really like to make something clear about this whole situation. I want everyone to know that the vehicle that was eggged was the only target. The teens had mistaken that vehicle for a friends car which was very similiar to the off duty officer's vehicle. These kids would never go around vandalizing random people's property, i know each and every one of them personally, so to kevin who supposedly lives in the affected neighborhood i want you to know that these teens were not responsible for anything that happened in your neighborhood. Next time someone wants to put their two cents in maybe you should get all of your facts straight. I am in no way saying that what these kids did wasn't wrong and that they shouldn't be held responsible or be punished however they are not delinquents who go around destroying others property, they were just having some fun with a friend who had already egged their car.

I have known two of the girls that were involved for a long time, and I know that they are NOT bad kids. I agree with everyone about that fact that so many teenagers have done this. I believe that they should be punished because it was wrong, but you all are saying things as if they have murdered someone...Trying to take their license?? Throw them in jail?? It's a couple of HIGH SCHOOL KIDS that were having fun, I also know for a fact their parents are punishing them for their actions. Some of you seem to be making these kids out to be outright criminals that they should be punished with murders or burgerlers. They should be punished, they should have to pay for the damage, but remember they are JUST kids.

To Cathy: I know these kids that got caught, and I know for fact that they do this on a regular basis. They've never ever given a care as to what they were doing because they are just dumb kids whose parents have never taught them anything about respect for others, but maybe now they will learn a lesson and leave other people's property alone. As for the cop chasing them, I do think he should have tried to pull up beside them and show his badge, but the girls were in hysterics and probably wouldn't have pulled over anyway. At least with him there they weren't going to egg anyone else and if something were to happen, he would be there. And just calling it in probably wouldn't have done anything in a timely manner because there are more important things than egging going on. This really isn't as important as some other things that could have been done, but I'm glad that it's still being taken seriously. Hopefully this will be a lesson to them and to all the other teens.

alright tina, ok next time yoiu get your car egged get some water wipe it up, and chalk it off as bad luck. As for the verbal abuse i agree with n/a no matter what they did officers dont need to degrade them. They should live up to the expectations that come with being a ploice officer and treat them with respect!! They didnt kill anyone they threw an egg. And on another note, why is this on the news in the first place? All i can say it must have been a slow news day!!

Cathy how do you know he never identified himself as a cop, were you there? holding kids and their parents accountable for their actions, respect for other folks property, and running from the police offend you? as you say people like jeff and i are corrupting the world? i think there are plenty of bleeding heart liberals in the USA to thank for that one.

note to jeff in lexington- Everything you stand for disgusts me. Children should be severly punished for throwing an egg at a car? You make me sick. Its people like you that are corrupting the world today. I would definitely perfer children egging cars then going out and getting drunk, smoking weed and doing god knows what most teens do. You can clean of an egg with water and towel. The cop chased these children across town and never once tried to identify himself as a cop. How pathetic is it that a grown man chased children across lexington, riding their tail, instead of just calling the police and giving them their license plate number. And for all of you that think these kids did their car as well, how can you prove that? Its not like these kids egg cars every night. Stop using these children as a scapegoat for your problems!

This is for the ones who say to get over it...if it had happened to you and your car's paint started to fad or chip off because some ignonant teenagers decided to throw eggs at YOUR car, would you still be saying the same thing. I think not. Eggs throwing at cars can cause thousands of dollars in damages if not found and washed off soon after. So luckily the officer witnessed the teens in action and hopefully the cars got washed in time before the eggs dried. As for the verbal abuse, all I got to say is that they deserved it. If they chose to do stupid acts to try to damage other people's property, they had it coming for them.

ok "jeff", you really need to calm down. it was a mistake. kids do silly stuff thats wh they are kids and no matter what they did no one has the right to talk to them like they are second class citizens even if they are employed by the city. yes they should have to pay for the damage but after that lets all move on with our lives!!! that's right it was just an egg!!!

A note to "none" and "n/a" in Lexington - yes, first it's an egg but what comes after that? NO, not all teenagers go around egging a car or a house. Who cares that the kids were crying not realizing it was a cop chasing them. Hopefully that taught them a lesson; DON'T SCREW WITH OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY. For those of you who are saying "get over it" you really have lost your mind. You are the type of parents for this society to be in the shape it is in. Put yourself in the position of the person whose car was egged. You would want justice and don't lie and say you wouldn't. You disgust me with your support of kids that do these things.

who cares it was an egg teenagers do stupid stuff like that, its only a big deal because it hit the car of an officer if it was any one elses car it wouldnt be a big deal, its not like they were running around busting out windows, get over it, i have 3 kids of my own and if they got in trouble for something like this i would be disappointed and probably ground them but all this chaotic discussion about what should happen to them is ridiculous. get over your selves. it was an egg. an EGG!
